Columbia University, New York

Since 1999 the group has maintained close scientific co-operation with a group from the Columbia University of New York, headed by Prof. Andreas Hielscher. The project is funded by a follow-up grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

The two teams co-operate on assignments related to the optical tomographical representation of small joints, in particular finger joints, in order to improve the diagnosis of rheumatically affected joints. The New York group focuses its attention on the investigation of mathematical models for the calculation of the diffuse propagation of radiation in the tissue and the expansion of reconstruction algorithms for the generation of tomogram cross sections.
